Susquehanna County
Well known as home to Elk Mountain Ski Resort, Susquehanna County offers much to both its residents and tourists. Elk Mountain Ski Resort is an extremely popular destination, located in Uniondale and offering many ski programs and trails for both beginner and experienced skiers. In addition the county’s snowy attractions, Susquehanna County also boasts other outdoor beauties, such as hiking in Salt Springs State Park and bird watching at the Florence Shelly Preserve and the Woodbourne Sanctuary. Visitors can access Susquehanna County easily via major transportation corridors US Route 11 and I-81, both running through the county.
Susquehanna County has a population of 43,356, the second largest county in the Northern Tier region. The county’s 40 municipalities spread across 823 square miles. Montrose, the County Seat is near several major employment centers, including: Binghamton, New York (26 miles north); Scranton, Pennsylvania (41 miles south); and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania (49 miles south).
Major industries include education, health and social services, as well as manufacturing, retail trade and arts and entertainment.
