Sullivan County
As one of Pennsylvania’s most rural counties, Sullivan County boasts both breathtaking mountains and scenic valleys. While the county is well known for its semi-anthracite coal and timber, Sullivan County also attracts many tourists in each year. State Parks such as Ricketts Glen and Worlds End bring many visitors each year to relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside that Sullivan County has to offer. A 64-mile long tributary of the Susquehanna River, the Loyalsock Creek is a major natural attraction in Sullivan County. Loyalsock Creek south of Dushore contains a bed of quartz sandstone known as the Haystacks and are part of the Mississippian-Denovian Upper Huntley Mountain Formation. The Creek is frequently used for whitewater kayaking and abundant fishing, with hiking on the surrounding trails and through Worlds End State Park. Picturesque towns like Dushore, Laporte, Eagles Mere, and Sonestown offer historic and quiet getaways for both residents and visitors.
In addition to its beautiful landscape, Sullivan County also promotes many thriving businesses. Leading employers include the state government, Sullivan County School District, and The Highlands Care Center. Sullivan County has a population of 6,428 across 13 municipalities and 450 square miles.
